Step 1: Choosing a domain name - You may want to choose your farm or ranch name for your domain name. Or maybe your stallion's name. But you want to keep it simple, easy to remember, and easy to spell. Unfortunately, your ranch name may already be taken, and you may need to get a little creative. Either with dashes (-) or underscores (_). Sometimes you luck out and get the name you want on the first try. But usually not. Once you find a domain name that is available, you must register it. This is known as "registering your domain". It is done annually, and once you get your domain name, you don't want to let it expire, or someone else can register it. Once someone else has it, you may not ever be able to get it back. Domains through SMS-Domains are $15 annually, with no set-up fee.
Hosting your web site - This is where your web site resides or is "hosted". It can be either a monthly, quarterly, or annual fee. This fee can run from, $5 to $100 a month. SMS-Domains charges an annual fee of $60.
Designing your web
site - This is the meat and potatoes of your web site. It is the
actual content. Usually consisting of a home page and several supporting
pages. You may want a foal page, pedigree page, photo page, or performance
page. Our web site design packages start at $500. This includes the
domain registration and hosting for 1 year. This gets you 12 hours of
design time. Most sites are completed within the 12 hour time frame.
Website updates are charged at a rate of $50 an hour,
after your initial 12 hours.
